Creative Studio
Last Lemon is a creative studio and content licencing agency founded by Lisa Swerling and Ralph Lazar. They work as independent artists, illustrators and authors and run a global licencing business from their home, selling millions of copies of books, greetings cards and merchandise.
The original digital nomads, they invented the concept of flexible working before anyone had even thought of the idea, enabling them to travel the world with their two daughters while continuing to work on projects with international clients, with Dropbox at the heart of their workflow.

"Lisa made this paintbrush holder for me (featuring a unicornfish) when we lived in the Seychelles in 1999.
Everything we have done in our work lives began when we moved for a year from London to a tiny house on Cerf Island (52 inhabitants) to work on our first project, Harold’s Planet. We lived in an old, rambling shack open to the elements and we had access to our own little reef, where we snorkeled every day. "

Making movie legends in miniature has been as much fun as you'd imagine - dressing Viggo Mortensen in a cheap red suit in Captain Fantastic, painting the bloodshot whites of Daniel Kaluuya's eyes in Get Out, Sean Connery being suave, capturing Audrey Tatou's classic style in Amelie, Taika Waititi jumping like a loon in a Bavarian forest, perfecting the tilt of Adèle Haenel's head in Portrait of a Lady on Fire...."

"I had a circus-themed exhibition at the Anthropologie Gallery, London, which starred tiny tightrope-walkers, invisible women, clowns smaller than a pea, dancing girls on moons that fit in the palm of a hand…
I've collected treasure my whole life. I never actually needed an excuse to buy the small wooden rabbit with the broken ear, the scrap of vintage lace, the snooker balls someone had cut into slices. But this circus-themed exhibition was still a wonderful justification for my lifetime of dawn flea-market treasure-hunting. "

Devil-Cat is the loveable villain of Dash Candoo, our latest project, a series of comical adventure books for kids aged 6-9.
"I remember at University in the early 1990s, studying politics, and hearing for the first time the notion that 'the personal is political'. It was a very radical idea, probably proposed by some pesky feminists. These days of course it's mainstream, and especially here in the US the political atmosphere permeates everything, it's the air we breathe. Cough cough gasp.

I've always been suspicious of certainties. Artists can play a role in challenging people's assumptions and maybe undermining their certainties a little. What if I was born with a different colour skin? And you? And Trump? Are the hallowed 'truths' we cling to, actually just the results of a cosmic lottery? "
